UHLC 2024 Graduate Fellowships

The UHLC Graduate Fellowship Program is designed to make it possible for our recent graduates who are dedicated to careers in public service to pursue unpaid internships as they await their bar results. The Law Center will provide up to $4,500 to a limited number of recent graduates selected for a Graduate Fellowship with a government agency or a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Students are responsible for choosing the agency, arranging their placement, and submitting all required documents to complete their application. Work schedules are flexible, but fellows are expected to work at least 30 hours per week for 10 weeks.

Students who have taken the bar exam in February 2024 or who will be taking the bar exam in Summer 2024 are eligible to apply. Applications for this program will be reviewed by the administration and Graduate Fellowships will ONLY be awarded to students meeting all of the following criteria:

  • A sincere desire to have a long-term legal career in the public sector.
  • A demonstrated background in and dedication to public interest work.
  • The potential to stay on at their host organization in a long-term capacity as evidenced by the organizations past hiring practices and the information provided by the supervisor in the agency agreement form.

Please review the Graduate Fellowship FAQ for more detailed information and application instructions. Applications are now open and will be accepted on a rolling basis as funding permits.

For questions about the program, please contact Bill Powers at wapowers@central.uh.edu or 713-743-0810.
