University of Houston Law Center graduate Brent Shultz '11
Feb. 10, 2020 — Having spent the entirety of his legal career at Haynes and Boone, LLP, University of Houston Law Center alumnus Brent Shultz '11 sees his recent promotion to corporate finance partner as a natural progression from his previous roles as an associate and summer intern.
“I find it very rewarding,” Shultz said. “It is certainly an honor when a firm recognizes you with a promotion to partnership and I hope to continue to build Haynes and Boone's reputation as a leading firm internationally in corporate finance, with a particular emphasis on our Houston office.
"I look forward to a rewarding practice where I’m not only serving my clients but serving the greater Houston community as well.”
Haynes and Boone has offices in Charlotte, Chicago, New York, Washington, D.C., and multiple offices in both Texas and California. It also has an international presence in London, Mexico City and Shanghai. The firm ranks among the largest law firms in the nation with approximately 575 attorneys.
Shultz's undergraduate education in economics and management led him to a role as a financial analyst for ATA Airlines. That experience led him to approach aw school with a focus on banking and finance law.
He decided to pursue his legal education at the Law Center for both personal and professional reasons.
"It was a combination of the school's excellent reputation and my wife's family being from Houston," Shultz said. "Geographically, it's where we wanted to be and there are definitely benefits to going to an excellent law school located in such a large and diverse global market like Houston."
After graduating from the Law Center nearly nine years ago, Shultz now sees the impact of the Law Center's connection to Houston's robust legal market from a new perspective.
"I made friends and met colleagues during law school and now our firm makes it a priority to recruit at the Law Center," he said. "In my group alone we have hired two associate attorneys from the Law Center within the last few years and we have a third one coming next fall.
"We definitely value the Law Center as an excellent partner, and it provided me with excellent contacts in the wider Houston community. The legal talent that the Law Center provides every year is consistently outstanding.”
