Preference Courses

2L students are given preference for certain courses during their registration (i.e., preference courses). This enables them to have a chance to register for these classes before 3Ls register. This preference is only extended to the daytime sections of the following courses.

  • Evidence (Fall)
  • Federal Income Tax (Fall)
  • Business Organizations (Spring)

NOTE:  Any student who registers for a preference course before their approved time will be administratively removed from the course.

NOTE: These courses are not required but considered building block courses for upper-level continued coursework.

3Ls & 4Ls:

3L students are not permitted to enroll in preference courses until after the 2L preference period (the third day of registration). 3Ls and 4Ls who enroll in these courses prior to 8:00am next day will be administratively withdrawn.

Part-Time Students:

Part-time students register on the first day of registration and will have priority for night classes. Part-time students who want to take mostly day classes should contact the Director of Enrollment Services (lawOSA@uh.edu) prior to registration. Part-time students who want to enroll in the day sections of Evidence, Federal Income Tax, or Business Organizations may enroll in the classes after the third day of registration (2L preference) if space is available.
