Prof. Tibisay Morgandi

Assistant Professor of Law—Queen Mary University of London School of Law

On behalf of the Environment, Energy and Natural Resources (EENR) Center at the University of Houston Law Center, we are delighted to announce the forthcoming events we’ll host in the frame of our virtual lecture series on Energy Transition and Climate Governance, sponsored by the EU’s Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, and spearheaded by Dr. Aubin Nzaou.

Topic: Energy Security in International Law

Speaker's name: Prof. Tibisay Morgandi
Assistant Professor of Law—Queen Mary University of London School of Law

This talk will explore the role of international law in guaranteeing energy security. It will discuss challenges to long-term and short-term energy security and how these are addressed by international law. It will cover how international law facilitates long-term energy security by enabling foreign investment, trade and free transit of energy. It will also cover how international law responds to political, environmental and non-conventional short-term threats to energy security.

Dr Morgandi is an Assistant Professor in International Energy and Natural Resources Law. She is based at the Energy Law Institute at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (School of Law).

Dr Morgandi is a public international lawyer and teaches and publishes in the area of international energy law and international economic law. Before joining QMUL, Dr Morgandi was a Swiss National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Cambridge (she was based at C-EENRG, where she is still a Fellow). At Cambridge, Dr Morgandi lectured in International Environmental Law in the MPhil in the Department of Land Economy and taught International Law at Trinity Hall. She previously worked as an associate in the Public International Law Practice and in the International Arbitration Group at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (Paris).

Dr Morgandi was admitted to the Bar in Italy in 2014 and has consulted for the European Commission as well as Chatham House, Client Earth, the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD). Her native languages are Italian and Spanish. She is fluent in English and French. Her monograph, entitled State Energy Treaties, is forthcoming with Cambridge University Press.
