May 6, 2025 - Nearly 100 law students attended the recent Spring Small & Midsize Firm Open House, hosted by the University of Houston Law Center’s Career Development Office.
“We want to help our students find the best possible career opportunities that help them achieve their career goals,” said Chandria Jackson, director of Employer Relations & Development at UHLC. “Hosting the Open House helps showcase the work that is performed at firms with 50 or fewer lawyers.”
She explained that firms at the Open House tend to hire when they have an immediate need, and the event attracts a large number of candidates who are looking for employment, which makes for an efficient and win-win situation.
“This is one of my favorite programs to host because it gives students and graduates the opportunity to directly speak with hiring representatives to learn about the firms and present why they are the best candidate for a job,” Jackson said.
This semester’s Open House was the largest in recent years; 50 law firms from Houston and the surrounding area recruited through the event. Participating firms included the Daspit Law Firm, Eggleton & Briscoe, Graves Law, Hick Davis Wynn, R. Reese & Associates, Reddy Neumann Brown , the Law Office of Bryan Fagan and McLeod Alexander Powel & Apffel of Galveston and The Gwosdz Law Firm P.C. of Victoria. We appreciate their interest in recruiting from the Law Center.
The Career Development Office’s next events include the on-campus interview program, also known as OCI. OCI: First Look will be held on June 14 and June 21. OCI: Session 1 will be from July 28-Aug. 1. Click here for more information about the OCI program or to register for either event.
