Maleaha Brown
Clinical Associate Professor of Lawyering, Skills and Strategies
Professor Maleaha Brown teaches Lawyering Skills and Strategies I and II and Family Law at the University of Houston Law Center. Before joining the Law Center, Professor Brown taught Family Law, Legal Analysis, Writing, and Skills I, and Legal Analysis, Writing, and Skills II: Negotiation at Southwestern Law School.
Prior to teaching, Professor Brown was a family law attorney at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid and Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. In these roles, Professor Brown represented low-income survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in complex family law litigation to provide protection in the aftermath of abuse and against further victimization in the court system.
Professor Brown is an active member of the American Bar Association. She currently serves as a Commissioner on the Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence and on the Editorial Board for the Family Law Section’s scholarly journal, FAMILY LAW QUARTERLY.
Additionally, Professor Brown is passionate about improving the experiences of women in the legal profession. She has been an active member of Ms. JD since 2015 when she was selected as a Ms. JD Fellow during her third year in law school. Professor Brown served on Ms. JD’s Board of Directors from 2017 - 2022 and as the Board Chair from 2020 - 2022.
Professor Brown received her J.D. from Howard University School of Law and her B.A. from Baylor University. She is licensed to practice law in Texas.
