James E. Herget
Professor of Law
Professor Herget came to the University of Houston Law Center in 1973 and taught Constitutional Law and International Comparative Law for 25 years.
Herget earned his undergraduate and J.D. degrees from the University of Illinois and an S.J.D degree from the University of Virginia. In addition to his teaching, Herget served as associate dean for academic affairs, director of the International Law Institute, director of the Mexican Legal Studies Program, and longtime chair of the promotion and tenure committee. In 1983-84 he was a visiting professor of law at Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan, and in 1993-94 he was senior researcher at Heidelberg University in Heidelberg, Germany. Both visits were sponsored by the Fulbright program. He is the author of several books and numerous legal articles.
He passed away on April 27, 2016, at the age of 81.
