Biography
Professor Anna Archer teaches Lawyering Skills and Strategies, a class designed to help first-year law students develop the research, analytical, writing, and communication skills that form the foundation of an effective legal practice.
Professor Archer is a first-generation and second-career lawyer with more than two decades of experience in legal research, analysis, and writing. She spent fifteen years as a career law clerk for a federal district court judge, where she analyzed a wide range of civil and criminal legal issues, drafted hundreds of proposed judicial opinions, and advised the judge at every stage of litigation. She also has four years of active litigation experience.
Before becoming a lawyer, Professor Archer worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller. That experience taught her the importance of clear communication, careful analysis, and sound judgment—skills that are essential to both legal practice and legal education.
Outside the classroom, Professor Archer enjoys mentoring law students and young lawyers and being engaged with the legal community. She is the host of the Houston Bar Association’s Behind the Lines: The Houston Lawyer Podcast, serves on the Editorial Boards of The Houston Lawyer, the Texas Bar Journal, and the Federal Lawyer, and chairs the Houston Bar Association’s Women in the Law Section.
