UHLC’s Journal of Health Law & Policy increases visibility 10-fold through enhanced outreach efforts

logoAug. 09, 2023 — The University of Houston Law Center’s student-run Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy is coming off a banner year of implementing new marketing, promotion and publication initiatives that exceeded expectations.

Under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Bebe Thomas, a graduate of the Class of 2023, the Journal hosted numerous successful events in-person and online. Other accomplishments include enhancing candidate training, updating the Journal's logo, and launching a fundraising campaign that reached over 100 Journal alumni.

The Journal also had a strong year in scholarship. It reviewed 49 professional author submissions and published two issues. These issues featured nine articles by respected experts from top law schools and impressive students. Additionally, the Journal introduced a Health Law Perspectives series and posted 10 blog posts. These efforts increased visibility by generating more than 10 times the amount of website traffic, which was amplified through targeted social media campaigns.

Incoming Editor-in-Chief, rising 3L Lizzy Do, said she hopes to continue the Journal’s momentum.

“I’m looking forward to building on the accomplishments the Journal has had. I want to empower the students who are in leadership roles and those who will be coming on as candidates. I also hope to foster an environment in which student members can develop their writing and editing skills,” said Do.

The faculty sponsors for the Journal of Health Law & Policy include Research Assistant Professor Leah Fowler and George A. Butler Legal Research Professor Jessica Mantel, both of the Health Law & Policy Institute.

“We are so proud of our health law students, and the Journal of Health Law & Policy continues to impress us as they evolve and respond to some of the most difficult and pressing policy issues of our time,” said Fowler.

The Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy plans to expand on these successes and appreciates support.  If you would like to sponsor any events or activities, please contact the Journal’s Outreach Editor, Tyler Brewster, at tjbrewst@cougarnet.uh.edu
