May 11, 2023 — The University of Houston Law Center is celebrating its upcoming 2023 commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 13 at the Fertitta Center. UHLC graduates will be individually recognized for their dedication and hard work for their J.D. and LL.M. degrees.

The ceremony begins at 2 p.m. and guests may attend in person or virtually (live streamed here).

The Honorable Diana Saldaña, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Texas in Laredo, will serve as the commencement speaker Saturday, May 13. Saldaña began her legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable George P. Kazen and was the first in her family to graduate college. After her clerkship, Judge Saldaña joined the U.S. Department of Justice as a trial attorney in the Employment Litigation Section of the Civil Rights Division in Washington, D.C.

A migrant student for much of her childhood, Saldaña strives to mentor students and build a support network for the youth of Laredo. She is currently hosting moot courts for grade schools, teaching first-generation high schoolers to apply to college and accepting college students as interns for a hands-on experience.
