Prospective students gathered for a reception at the John M. O’Quinn Law Building to meet with UH Law Center Dean Leonard M. Baynes, faculty, and staff during Admitted Students Day.

April 4, 2023 — University of Houston Law Center Dean Leonard M. Baynes welcomed prospective students to campus during the spring Admitted Students Day reception.

Baynes congratulated the students on their accomplishment of being accepted to law school and emphasized the importance of selecting the right place to facilitate their dreams.

“Dreaming is so important. You don’t know what you can be unless you dream it,” said Baynes. “At the University of Houston Law Center, we dare to dream — big and bold.”

As a first-generation American and college student himself, Baynes highlighted the transformative power of legal education.

“Law school changes people’s lives. It changed my life, and it can change your life. By going to law school, you have the opportunity to make a difference in your family, society, city, state and the world.” said Baynes. UH Law Center has an alumni network of more than 17,000, many of whom have made their marks as judges, corporate executives, litigators and government officials.

At the reception, prospective students met with alumni, faculty, and staff. They also toured the home of the Law Center, the John M. O’Quinn Law Building. Opened in fall 2022, the building is the newest law school building in Texas and one of the newest in the country.

“We are delighted to host our newly admitted students in the beautiful John M. O’Quinn Law Building. Not only does this event allow them the opportunity to see where they will be attending law school, but it’s also an opportunity for them to meet the Law Center’s faculty, staff, current students and their future classmates,” said Pilar Mensah, UH Law Center Assistant Dean for Admissions. “We want them to experience our community, which is what makes the Law Center such a special place.”
