Fueling students, one cup at a time! The New Nook Café Cart is open for business and serving brews to UHLC students, faculty and staff and more.
Nov. 3, 2025 —Thanks to a new pilot program with Chartwells Dining Services, Katz Coffee has set up a dedicated cart inside the University of Houston Law Center. This means UH law students no longer need to leave the building for a much-needed caffeine boost to fuel their studying. Also, people from neighboring buildings have a shorter walk to get their next cup of caffeine.
Hosted by UH Dining Services, the cart offers students convenient access to fresh coffee, teas, and pastries from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays, in the third-floor lobby of the John M. O’Quinn Law Building.
“The Law Center students are a community that often stays all night and all day,” said District Marketing Director Alexcis Mendoza for Chartwells Higher Ed. “They even have showers in the building. What they haven’t had is the opportunity to caffeinate in their own space. The pilot program featuring this coffee cart will take care of that.”

Coffee love thanks to Katz Coffee in the UH Law Center at The Nook Cafe Cart on the third floor.

Celebrate UH with alumnus-owned Katz blends like Coogs’ House, #ForTheCity, and 1927 The Centennial Blend.
Excitement is percolating among the students. “I think it’s great for students that are here all day,” said 1L student Alex Hickok. “Sometimes I’m here from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., it’s like a job. It’s nice for students that need that extra boost.”
The cart will feature popular Katz blends, including the Coogs’ House, #FortheCity, and 1927 The Centennial Blend, all celebrating UH’s alumni spirit and history. The Nook Cafe Cart is a UH alumni-owned and student-run concept.
Katz Coffee, founded by UH alumnus Avi Katz, has been the official brew of the UH Alumni Association for more than a decade. In addition to the new cart, Katz blends and K-Cups are also being sold in on-campus markets, giving students the chance to bring their Cougar pride home with them.
“Law school can be demanding, but the small comforts can make a huge difference,” said Monica Mensah, assistant dean for student affairs. “Having Katz Coffee here not only provides energy for our students but also creates a space where they can pause and feel supported.”
