S. Grant Dorfman
udge Grant Dorfman was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the 129th Civil District Court in May 2002, and was elected to that post in November 2002 and re-elected in November 2004. Judge Dorfman also serves as a member of the faculty of the National Judicial College, in Reno, Nevada; and on the adjunct faculty of the University of Houston Law Center, where he teaches pretrial litigation and trial advocacy. Born in Dallas, Texas, Judge Dorfman obtained an A.B. in Honors History from Brown University, a Master of Studies (M.St.) in History and Political Philosophy from Oxford University, and his J.D. from the Yale Law School. Prior to taking the bench, Judge Dorfman served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jerry E. Smith of the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and practiced commercial litigation in Houston with the law firms of Susman Godfrey and then at Ogden, Gibson, White & Broocks, where he was made a partner in 1999. Judge Dorfman is married to Katie Dorfman, and they have two children, ages 10 and 3.
