Course Outline: Permit students to become familiar with the general elements of a crime, common defenses to criminal liability, inchoate crimes, and of the specific offenses relating to homicide. In addition, students will practice their statutory interpretation skills, consider the modern uses of common law, and hone argumentation strategies.

The MPC refers to the Model Penal Code and it is reprinted starting on page 937 of the assigned casebook. In this week’s reading, consider the relationships--at times overlapping and at other times conflicting--between common law, modern statutes, and the MPC. All three retain current importance in Criminal Law. Please bring your casebooks to class as we often refer to specific passages in the day’s reading.
