Professor of Practice
Professor Michael S. Ewer is a visiting professor in the Health Law and Policy Institute at the University of Houston Law Center. He earned his MD degree from the University of Basel, Switzerland in 1969, and has been a tenured professor on the faculty of The University of Texas where he has served for the past 37 years. Dr. Ewer earned his J.D. and L.L.M. degree in Health Law from The University of Houston Law Center and has been teaching in the Health Law program at the Law Center since 2007. His fields of interest include health care policy, ethics of clinical trials and medical research, medical errors and compensation, appropriate levels of medical care, legal rights of indigent patients and barriers to their access to care, conflict-of-interest among health care providers and institutions, health care reform, marketing of medical products and services, and medical ethics. Dr. Ewer has served as the Chairman of both the Ethics Committee and the Conflict-of-Interest Committee at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, and has authored 4 books as well as nearly 300 publications. He is an internationally recognized speaker and consultant in the field of medical ethics and medical-legal issues.
