Carey graduated with honors from the University of Houston in 2000 with a degree in both Economics and Political Science. Upon completing her undergraduate education, she went on to Harvard Law School, where she graduated with honors in 2003. Since graduating from law school, Carey has held attorney positions in both the private and public sector. She worked in the litigation section of a large Texas-based multi-practice law firm, where she worked on franchise disputes, insurance litigation, Medicare fraud prosecutions, and other commercial litigation matters at both the trial court and appellate level. Carey also worked as a federal law clerk for two judges in the Southern District of Texas. She has held a teaching position in the Economics Department at Harvard University and is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Houston School of Law.
