The Latinx Law Students Association (LLSA) at the University of Houston Law Center is dedicated to promoting a successful representation of Latinx in the legal community.  Among its objectives, LLSA strives to increase the number of Latinx at the University of Houston Law Center, facilitate their transition to law school, assist them with their educational and professional goals and to provide a mechanism for LLSA members to communicate effectively with the law school administration and the Houston legal community.

To achieve these objectives, LLSA provides incoming students with a small academic library, opportunities to attend networking receptions, academic counseling, guest speaker forums and social events with members of the legal community.  Most importantly, LLSA is dedicated to ensuring that every member reaches his or her potential in academics and in their legal careers.

Currently LLSA has over 50 active members.  The organization continues in its original goals and also provides academic support to its members and involves itself with the greater Houston community.  While most members of HLSA are Latinx, membership is not limited; LLSA welcomes everyone with an interest in social awareness within the legal community regarding the importance of diversity.  Members enjoy all the benefits available through HLSA, including networking opportunities, community involvement, moral support and, most importantly, free lunches.

LLSA was originally founded as the Chicano Law Students Association (CLSA) in the fall of 1970 by five Chicano students, including Fifth Circuit Judge Pete Benavides.  A few years ago, the members voted to change the name of the organization to the Latinx Law Students Association to reflect the diversity within our organization and the Law Center.  Since its inception, LLSA has provided a support network for its members and has worked hard to increase diversity in the Law Center through active participation in recruitment and admissions.
