The University of Houston Law Alumni Association has had a terrific year, and I would like to invite you to celebrate our many successes at our Annual Meeting and Reception:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our volunteers and Board members for their time, service and contributions. We have had so many great and varied events this year, and they wouldn’t have taken place without all of these committed individuals.
I want to especially highlight the alumni, volunteers, and families that rolled up their sleeves and helped us plant several dozen large trees at the Law Center on our Planting Day in February. This was our first family/community-oriented event. We were able to plant dozens of trees, make a real impact to the appearance of the Law Center grounds, and help mitigate the impacts of the drought through substantial donations of time and, importantly, through the $20,000 given by our title sponsors: CH2MHill, Jackson Gilmour & Dobbs, PC, LightHouse Document Solutions, and Union Pacific Railroad Company. Trees for Houston was an integral part of this effort along with Planning Chairs Clayton Forswall ’11 and Lori Warner, LLM ‘96.
I would also like to thank Hope Young, Director of Alumni Relations, for a truly amazing year of leadership and support. Hope and everyone with the Law School’s Office of External Affairs do an amazing job supporting the alumni and all of our activities. We would not have been able to accomplish so much this year without Hope and everyone at the school’s support!
Thank you to the 500 plus alumni and friends who attended and supported the 36th Annual Law Gala and Auction. Under the direction of Bob’ 81 and Shelley Schick, guests were treated to a tropical evening at the InterContinental Hotel Houston. The evening brought in proceeds in excess of $450,000.

100 % Challenge Update
The 100% Challenge brings UH Law Center alumni at firms, corporations and other organizations together for a common purpose: maintaining excellence in legal education. The goal? To achieve 100 percent participation in giving by UH Law Alumni at those organizations that employ four or more alumni.
In fiscal year 2011/2012, 122 organizations are participating in the 100% Challenge—up by over 20% from last year. Many thanks to our wonderful volunteers who are ensuring that the UH Law Center continues to be an exemplar of legal education.
With the ever-increasing costs of educating the next generation of lawyers coupled with shrinking state support, the Law Fund has become more vital to the University of Houston Law Center and its success. If you are part of an organization that employs four or more UH Law Alumni, we would love to talk with you. Please contact Leah Gross ’87, Director of Annual Giving, at 713.743.2203 or email@example.com.
It was great to see so many of you at our Valley, Dallas and Austin alumni receptions, and we look forward to connecting with more of you outside of Houston and Texas. If there is a UHLC alumni network in your area that we can help bring together on a more regular basis, please contact our Director of Alumni Relations, Hope Young.
If you are traveling to Houston for the State Bar Annual Meeting, please join us at the UHLC Alumni Reception:
