Basically, the landlord owns the apartment, and he determines what the terms of the lease will be. If the landlord wants a large deposit, or not deposit, that i s his choice. The law does not regulate the amount of rent or of the security de posit. All the law requires is that the landlord not discriminate based on race, sex, age, marital status or religion. If you think the deposit is too high, let the landlord know. If he refuses to lower it, your options are to pay it, propo se an alternative amount, or look somewhere else. |
