This year marks 20 years that the University of Houston Law Center Immigration Clinic has provided FREE legal services to immigrants in need. It has represented individuals who have been victims of persecution, violence, human trafficking, genocide, children who qualify for juvenile visas and over 2000 low-income Houstonians.

The clinic also provides law students with hands-on training, mentorship and field experience in the courtroom while in school. 

The Arrival Awards is an Annual Fundraising Gala to recognize immigrant achievement, inspire cross cultural understanding and raise much needed funds for the Clinic. 

This event promotes messages of unity, respect, justice and hope and will feature:

• Recognition of our 2019 Arrival Awardees: Sima Ladjevardian, Harry Gee and Lynden Rose; 

• A once-in-a-lifetime, original fusion artistic performance choreographed and performed by Daniel Noyola of the Houston Grand Opera, Karina Gonzalez, the first Hispanic principal ballerina of the Houston Ballet, Rupert Edwards III,  her husband who is a former Houston Ballet dancer and iconic live painter, Geraldina Interiano Wise. A fully immigrant cast will tell the immigrant story;

• Festive cultural activities called “The Unity Experience,” inspired by the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston; and

• Acknowledgement of community leaders we have deemed “Beacons of Light”! 

This is a critical time in our country. There are more injustices than ever before. There are more people that need representation than ever before, and we must equip and mentor the next generation of immigration attorneys.
