Course Outline: Lawyering Skills and Strategies II will focus on legal writing in litigation and transactional contexts and the practice skills and strategic planning lawyers must possess to succeed within actual lawyering experiences. Training in essential lawyering skills such as legal writing, research, analysis, and oral communication will be embedded within fact pattern simulations involving typical litigation and transactional issues. Students will work through these issues, often representing opposing sides of the problem.

Please research the following questions:
1. If an intoxicated person is driving and mistakenly or accidentally (as opposed to intentionally) strikes a pedestrian and kills the person, what statutory crime can the person be charged with in Texas? What is the citation of the Texas statute?
2. If the driver is or is not intoxicated, is an automobile considered per se a deadly weapon in Texas?
Choose any three of the following methods to do this research assignment: (1) Library; (2) Westlaw Next; (3) Westlaw Classic; (4) Lexis Advance; (5) Lexis; or (6) Bloomberg Law. For each method, please carefully keep track of your research path and which specific search terms you used. Be prepared to discuss in our first class.
In addition to the research assignment, pick up a new Supplemental Readings Packet in the Copy Center. Please bring your Bluebooks and laptops to our first class.
