Course Outline: This two-hour course will examine the North American Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in its original form and contrast it to the USMCA. The course will include a brief introduction into the Mexican and Canadian legal cultures, to the multilateral trading system under the GATT and the WTO, and it will the future of North American integration in the context of NAFTA renegotiations and other regional agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Class discussion will include whether there is a future for the integration project. How would a new project look like? What legal instruments and institutions continue to be available for future economic integration and what are the key issues today for a viable international trade regime in the region?
Course Notes: Quota=25. There will be three class meetings over spring break and the exam will be on the fourth day.
Class Days: Monday, March 9 to Wednesday March 11, 2020. Each class will run from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with 1 Hour lunch and 10 minute breaks daily.
The final Exam will be on Thursday March 12, 2020 at 1 PM.
Lunch will be provided.
How to Register:
Go to PeopleSoft and register as you normally would for a class by clicking on Spring 2020 and on Law. Then, go to Session 5.
Final assessment: 85% a written exam and 15% class participation.
