Aug. 12, 2020 - University of Houston Law Center Clinical Professor and Immigration Clinic Director Geoffrey Hoffman spoke at the Regional Mexican Civil Rights Advisory Group meeting on Wednesday.

"I was honored to be invited to participate in a meeting of the Mexican Civil Rights Advisory Group at the request of the Mexican government,” Hoffman said. “The topics discussed included DACA, consular rights of foreign nationals, among other relevant topics to the immigrant community including issues arising due to COVID-19," Hoffman said.

MCRAG Texas has implemented various legal strategies that have strengthened the rights of Mexican nationals. They have helped identify the health risks of those detained in ICE during COVID-19, and have made efforts to inform Mexican H-2B workers of their rights.

On Sept. 2, Hoffman will lend his expertise on DACA in an event with the American Bar Association's International Section Immigration and Nationality Committee.

Hoffman specializes in immigration-related federal court litigation, deportation defense, asylum cases and appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals. He has also represented immigrants in a variety of cases.

In July, Hoffman’s article, "Chief Justice Roberts Gave Us a Roadmap for a Way Forward on DACA” was published in the Yale Journal on Regulation. He recently testified as an expert witness in a case between Wells Fargo and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Justice Catalyst Law, which was settled for $19.6 million.
