University of Houston Law Center students prepare to meet with representatives from a number of law firms and businesses during the Career Development Office’s On-Campus Interview Program.
Aug. 9, 2019 — The University of Houston Law Center’s Career Development Office facilitated meetings between 116 students and 83 organizations from Aug. 5-9 as part of the On-Campus Interview Program.
“The purpose is to connect our students with employers for summer associateships, and hopefully, in turn, to get a full-time offer from that summer position,” Kourtney James, director of Employer Relations and Development, said of the program open to 2L, 3L and LL.M. students.
“From all of our recruiting events, this is the largest one that we put on, so it’s an all hands on deck effort. We have great success, and employers come back every single year to recruit our students. We always get rave reviews about how well prepared our students are.”
A majority of the participating businesses were large, multinational firms. A number of firms did not appear on site, but allowed students to submit resumes.
Janhavi Das, a rising 2L, was thankful for the opportunity to interact with representatives from hiring law firms.
“It’s really awesome that we have a chance to meet with all of these employers on campus — it’s really convenient,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity to get to know the legal field and hopefully find a great job for the future.”
The interviews typically lasted from 20-30 minutes, and were conducted in the Finnell Study Rooms and the Career Development Office’s interview rooms. Future sessions of the program will take place in October and January.
