University of Houston Law Center Dean Leonard M. Baynes
Jan. 24, 2020 — University of Houston Law Center Dean Leonard M. Baynes has been selected to the fifth“Power List” of the Lawyers of Color Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting diversity in the legal profession.
The Power List recognizes the most influential minority attorneys in the nation, including general counsels, managing partners, legal media representatives, non-profit leaders and law school deans.
"I am humbled and honored to be chosen as part of the Power List by the Lawyers of Color Foundation," Baynes said. "It is wonderful to be recognized by my peers."
Baynes will be honored at a reception Feb. 26 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C. He also will be profiled in the organization’s upcoming Power List publication.
The Lawyers of Color Foundation conducts and commissions studies on issues affecting the legal profession and social justice, sponsors conferences, workshops and other events, and produces several publications aimed at students and practitioners.
Recently, Baynes has received the John Mercer Langston Legal Education Leadership Award during the 15th Annual National Black Pre-Law Conference and Law Fair, a Diversity Champion award from The National Diversity Counsel, a CLEO Edge Award from The Council on Legal Education Opportunity, Inc., and a Diversity and Inclusion Excellence and Achievement plaque from The Texas Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education.
