ExxonMobil General Counsel to Lead off 2019 Dean's Distinguished Speaker Series at UH Law Center

Jan. 8, 2019 — ExxonMobil Vice President and General Counsel Randall M. Ebner will offer career advice to law students and meet with alumni and friends of the University of Houston Law Center on Jan. 31 as the inaugural guest of the 2019 Dean's Distinguished Speaker series.

During the lunch hour, Ebner will address current Law Center students on the topic: "Roadmap to Success: Advice to Law Students." He will then discuss career options and strategies with Dean Leonard M. Baynes. Ebner will later meet with UHLC Pre-Law Pipeline students and Pre-Law undergraduates to discuss opportunities in the legal profession.

"The Law Center is excited to host Vice President Ebner," Baynes said. "He has an impressive career trajectory and now is the chief legal officer at a top Fortune 500 company. I know our students, faculty and alumni can learn a lot from Mr. Ebner."

The Law Center will also host a reception and fireside chat for alumni and supporters of the school later that evening at the Houston Petroleum Club downtown. Ebner and Baynes will discuss the role of the general counsel of a multinational, multicultural, multidiscipline, #2 Fortune 500 company.

Ebner joined the ExxonMobil law department after graduating from Tulane Law School in 1980. He was elected to his current position effective Nov. 1, 2016. During his career, he has held numerous positions in the law department, including litigation, transactional and management related assignments. Most recently, he was assistant general counsel for compliance and corporate law.

Ebner's talk will begin at 12:15 p.m., Jan. 31, at the UH Law Center, 4604 Calhoun Road.

The reception will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by the fireside chat at 6:30 p.m., at the Petroleum Club, Suite A, 35th Floor, 1201 Louisiana Street. Law Center alumni and invited guests can click here to RSVP for the event.
