Oct. 22, 2021 – For the second year in a row, National Jurist has listed the University of Houston Law Center’s LL.M. program on its LL.M. Honor Roll.
“The University of Houston Law Center has a number of LL.M. programs, including its LL.M. in Health Law, Tax Law, Intellectual Property Law and Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Law,” National Jurist stated. “Those are some of the school’s strongest specialties.”
According to the Greater Houston Partnership, twenty-four Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Houston metro area with many being tied to the energy industry. Houston is also home to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world.
Karen Jones, executive director of Global and Graduate programs at UH Law Center says the vast and varied business environment provided by the city is a big driver for lawyers to come to Houston to earn their master of laws degree.
“U.S. students look to the LL.M. to gain more education in niche fields,” Jones said. “Most come from outside of the state of Texas, again drawn by the school’s expertise in fields such as energy, health and tax. It’s difficult to pinpoint which specialty is the most popular.”
Located in the fourth-largest city in the nation, Jones noted that about 60 percent of students in UHLC’s LL.M. program are from outside of the United States, a number that has been steadily increasing, broadening the diversity, age and legal experience of students participating in the program.
