Dec. 11, 2019 — University of Houston Law Center Professor Sandra Guerra Thompson was recently welcomed as a member of the Council of the International Association of Evidence Science.

"I look forward to working with law professors and forensic scientists from around the world who are tackling many of the same problems," Thompson said. "We can advance the use of forensic science in our courts through this international exchange."

Thompson, the Newell H. Blakely Chair and director of the Criminal Justice Institute, was nominated by UC Davis Law School Professor Emeritus Edward Imwinkelried. She was unanimously approved by 42 current council members.

"The mission of the IAES is to promote progress in the related fields of Evidence Law and Forensic Science," said Associate Executive Director Zhuhao Wang. "To that end, the Association affords opportunities for exchange between and among scholars, judges, attorneys, forensic scientists, government officials interested in one or both fields throughout the world.

"The Association’s hopes are that such opportunities for exchange will provide interested persons with information and insights that they can use to effect reform in their own countries; and advance international legal cooperation by enhancing the understanding of the evidentiary and forensic science practices in other countries."
