Nov. 15, 2019 - College undergraduate students learned about the law school application process and heard from legal professionals at the recent Prospective Law Student Symposium & Law School Fair recently held at the University of Houston Law Center.

The event was sponsored by the Law Center's Pre-Law Pipeline Program and the National Diversity Council in recognition of Legal Diversity Week.

Attendees heard from numerous panelists who provided the key elements of getting into law school, such as communicating professionally throughout the process and building a personal brand. Edward Fierro, senior counsel at Bracewell, and Jamila Brinson a partner at Jackson Walker, shared what they enjoyed about their legal careers.

"I love what I do," Fierro said. "I wake up every morning excited to go to work. It's exciting to close a deal. I also love being a mentor to law students and younger associates, and it's great to see them advance in their careers.

"Expectations can be hard," Brinson added. "But I really love when I can take a case from A to Z. It can be painful, but when you're done it's this beautiful creation that's been made. I love that process."

The event concluded with a lunch, networking mixer and a law school fair held in the Commons.
