Oct. 10, 2019 - University of Houston Law Center Professor Renee Knake led a discussion with renowned author and public speaker Malcolm Gladwell in front of a sold out audience Tuesday evening at the Ballroom at Bayou Place.

Their conversation focused on Gladwell's new book, "Talking To Strangers" among other topics, and was organized by Brazos Bookstore.

“Gladwell had the crowd roaring with laughter in characteristic fashion, and at the same time he was quite moving in his reflections on events that hit close to home, including the suicide of Sandra Bland after she was arrested and jailed following a traffic stop in Prairie View, Texas,” Knake, the Law Center’s Joanne and Larry Doherty Chair in Legal Ethics and director of Outcomes and Assessments, said.

“It was also fascinating to talk with him about concepts of forgiveness in the context of our interactions with strangers.”

Gladwell is a staff writer at The New Yorker, host of the podcast Revisionist History and has authored five New York Times bestsellers.
