Aug. 20, 2019 — University of Houston Law Center Clinical Associate Professor Lauren Simpson was honored recently with the 2019 Outstanding Service Award from the Association of Legal Writing Directors at its biennial conference in Boston.

“I am deeply grateful to have received this ALWD service award,” Simpson said. “ALWD holds a special place for me for its tireless support of our profession, and it was thus an honor to give back to ALWD through this committee service.”

Simpson, '94, who teaches Lawyering Skills & Strategies, was nominated for her work as chair of the ALWD By-Laws Committee. Simpson was commended for taking on a detailed overview of the bylaws to ensure consistency with recent substantive amendments, clarity in drafting, and consistency with regulatory requirements.

"We were thrilled to acknowledge Professor Lauren Simpson's contributions and honor her as a 2019 Outstanding Service Award recipient," said Jodi L. Wilson, president of the Association of Legal Writing Directors in a statement. "Her work is appreciated and recognized throughout the legal writing community."

"Professor Simpson took a consistently thoughtful and proactive approach to the work, and her efforts were truly impressive. As the president of the ALWD, I worked with Professor Simpson throughout the year, and I couldn't agree more."
