Dec. 1, 2014 – Law Center students were able to take a much-needed study break Monday during the third annual “Smooch a Pooch” event. Sponsored by the UHLC chapter of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF), the gathering also serves as a fund-raiser for the Barc Shelter.
“Students get to cuddle with cute puppies and relieve stress,” said Kaitlyn Bailey, UHLC president of SALDF.
“Last year after seeing a puppy here, I went to the shelter the next day, asked to see the puppy, got it neutered, and took that puppy home,” said Cheuck Yee 3L. “Now he is a happy year-old dog.”
Yee along with classmate Kelly Rizzo, who also found one of the pups irresistible, last year, encouraged other students to adopt as they shared their stories and pictures.
Although the students cannot take a puppy home the same day, they are given a kennel record number and can submit an application online or at the shelter to adopt it.
The event has raised hundreds of dollars for Barc over the years.
