Dean's Note

Houston has long been known as a vibrant, international city, a gateway to the world, and the Law Center has played a major role in building that reputation. Our graduates have taken their legal knowledge and skills to the four corners of the world and everywhere in between. Law Center alums can be found from the U.K. to Nigeria and from Brazil to China, living, working, and making a difference in those countries as well as in Houston.

Whenever I meet a Law Center alum overseas or receive an email from a former student working abroad,  the first thing he or she wants to know is what’s new at the school. The second is whether I have heard from certain classmates -- where are they and what are they doing? I try to keep up with many former students, but after 40 years of sending newly-minted young lawyers out into the world, that has become harder and harder.

To help alumni stay in touch, we have added a new platform specifically for those working and living abroad and U.S. attorneys whose practice includes international law. The Global Law Alumni Network is designed to connect our overseas graduates with the Law Center and fellow alums back in the states. It includes feature stories, mini-profiles, career updates, and opportunities, but perhaps more importantly it provides an interactive Global Alumni Directory to help you contact Law Center grads around the world. Need an Intellectual Property lawyer in Singapore? You might find one in the directory. Or maybe you’re just looking for a tennis partner in Rio.

Register at law.uh.edu/alumni/global/ and then check back regularly to find friends and colleagues as the database grows.
