University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) now has an English as an Additional Language (EAL) Certificate course available through the University of Houston Language and Culture Center (LCC). This 4-week intensive course is specifically geared towards our admitted and prospective foreign law students, and includes the following:
The EAL course is custom-created to address the specific needs of UHLC foreign students. The course addresses four (4) important areas:
After application, students are assessed to determine whether the 4-week intensive or the longer Level 6 or another English language program is appropriate for them. If accepted into the 4-week intensive course, students are enrolled in the course and also assessed upon completion of the course. Payment for the English language course is made after the initial assessment.
This is not a TOEFL, IELTS replacement, so students will have taken an English exam before entering this course as required for the UHLC LLM application. However, upon successful completion of this EAL course, foreign law students may be deemed to have satisfied the minimum English language requirement for applying to the UHLC LLM program. This course also prepares students for the legal language they need in the introductory courses for the US Law LLM program at UHLC.
At the successful completion of the EAL course and final assessment, students receive a certificate of completion.
