I. Check-out Privileges
Visiting scholars sponsored by UHLC Administration may check out material in circulation for 1 week, with one 1-week renewal if no hold is placed on the item. To renew, they need to bring the book(s) to the Circulation Desk in person. Visiting scholars are permitted to have two items checked out at any given time. They may also check out material on reserve for up to four hours each time. Check-out privileges expire two weeks before their individual departure dates. Check-out privileges are available only at the Law Library. Other UH Libraries do not provide check-out privileges.
II. Databases Access
To access databases on the library database menu, a visiting scholar can gain access by using a UHLC computer with grounded internet connection. They can also access databases off site or on site with laptops as long as they have UH e-mail account and VPN client installed on the computer. To install VPN and Law VPN please see instruction here.
III. American Legal Research Training
The Law Library provides training sessions on legal research within the American legal system. Conducted by our lawyer-librarians, training sessions include lectures on the three branches of the federal government, their operation and the documents thus produced, the tools for research, library tour, and training on using databases. A handout on free websites is also included. Training usually is conducted at the beginning of the Fall semester. Please contact Chris Dykes for more details.
IV. Reference Service
Except during the University holidays, the Law Library Reference Desk is opened seven days a week:
