The Judge Brown Admiralty Collection is due in large part to an endowment by appreciative members of the admiralty bar of the Houston area. The collection was named in honor of Judge John R. Brown, a Fifth Circuit judge who had long served as an admiralty attorney in Houston. The collection was lost during Tropical Storm Allison. The O'Quinn Law Library rebuilt the collection during the Albertus book replacement project, completed in 2007. Since that time, the O'Quinn Law Library has maintained the collection as the preeminent collection of admiralty and maritime law in Texas.
