Alan Rogers. The child cases: how America's religious exemption laws harm children. University of Massachusetts Press, 2014.

KF9323.R64 2014

In most states, child abuse laws provide an exemption for withholding medical care from a sick child in accordance with the parents’ religious beliefs. Legal historian Alan Rogers examines a number of cases involving children who have died for lack of proper medical treatment, and argues that religious exemption provisos should be repealed in the interests of child welfare and equal protection of the laws.

Michael Warner. The rise and fall of intelligence: an international security history. Georgetown University Press, 2014.

JK468.I6W358 2014

Warner traces the history of intelligence and espionage operations from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present. While intelligence during the Cold War era was largely the province of the superpowers and their allies, today’s technology has opened the field to private organizations and even individuals. This book will be welcomed by anyone interested in intelligence, technology, or national security issues.
