Laurence Tribe and Joshua Matz. Uncertain justice: the Roberts Court and the Constitution. Henry Holt and Company, 2014.

KF4550.T789 2014

From gun control and health care to campaign finance and same-sex marriage, the decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Roberts have had far-reaching effects on a number of controversial issues. Shunning conventional generalizations about “liberal” and “conservative” justices, Tribe and Matz take a close look at the legal complexities that shape the Court’s decisions.

Sonu Bedi. Beyond race, sex, and sexual orientation: legal equality without identity. Cambridge University Press, 2013.

KF4764.B43 2013

The Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees “equal protection of the laws.” According to current constitutional jurisprudence, this means that laws targeting certain “suspect classes”—such as those based on race or religion—must be subjected to strict scrutiny. In this book, Bedi suggests a different model for equal protection jurisprudence, one based on the reasons for a given law rather than the classes of people it affects.
