Sanford
Levinson While most view
the constitution as a sacred document that holds our society together,
Sanford Levinson finds room for improvement. He points out that there
are provisions that have results unfitting for a democracy. First, he
states that winners of presidential elections are often those who did
not receive the majority of the popular vote and that the veto power
of the president enables the person in this position to overrule Congress
simply for political reasons. Second, the author complains about the
life time appointment of Supreme Court justices. Third, the amendment
process makes changing provisions difficult if not impossible. In all,
Levinson argues that the constitution in its current state could be
a recipe for disaster given that he believes that we cannot rid ourselves
of incompetent and ineffective leaders or ensure stability of the government
after a major crisis. |
