Rod Borlase’s letter, commenting on the Texas Bar Journal article, “An Invitation to an Open Court” (Hogwood; February 2000, p.116ff), was published in 63 TBJ 426 (May 2000).
David Dow spoke at the joint annual meeting of the American Culture and Popular Culture Association on the topic of the death penalty in recent American film. His article titled, “Fictional Documentaries and Truthful Fictions” will be published in Constitutional Commentary.
Sandra Guerra spoke at the Economic Crime Summit in Austin on May 8th on the law of civil asset forfeiture and money laundering. She also delivered a speech titled, “Capital Punishment in the Next millenium” at the Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Houston on April 30th.
Peter Linzer attended the American Law Institute meeting in Washington, D.C., and took part in the discussions of the Restatement Third of Restitution and the proposed revisions of Articles 1 and 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code. He has accepted an invitation to debate the proposed revised Article 1 restrictions on contractual choice of law clauses before the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association at the ABA Annual Meeting in New York City this coming July.
Douglas Moll’s article, “Shareholder Oppression in Texas Close Corporation: Majority Rule Isn’t What It Used to Be” has been published at 63 Texas Bar Journal 434 (May 2000). He has also been appointed to the articles committee of the Houston Lawyer.
Gerry Moohr’s article, “Opting In or Opting Out: The New Legal Process or Arbitration” has been published by the Washington University Law Quarterly. The article is part of a colloquium on legitimate judicial decision making.
Laura Oren testified before Senator Ellis’ Texas State Jurisprudence Committee about child support and visitation enforcement.
Ronald Turner has been promoted from Associate Professor to Full Professor of Law. His article, “HIV/AIDS, the Workplace, and Federal Appeals Courts’ Construction of the ADA” will be published in a forthcoming issue of the AIDS & Public Policy Journal. He has been selected to serve as the chair for the 2000 Southeast/Southwest Scholars of Color Conference that will be held at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
Ira Shepard
spoke April 18th on “Recent Developments in Federal Income Taxation”
for the American Petroleum Institute Tax Clinic in Houston. On April 19th
he was a panelist on the API ethics presentation and prepared an outline
on “Ethics Aspects of Corporate Tax Minimization Tools.” On May 4th he spoke
on “Recent Developments in Federal Income Tax” at the University of North
Carolina Tax Institute in Chapel Hill, NC.
