Tony Chase participated in a U.S. Telecommunications Trade Mission to sub-Saharan Africa in February. Twenty American leaders in the telecommunications field were chosen for the mission which included private talks with the Presidents of South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana. He was also reelected as a Director of the Council on Foreign Relations and will receive the Annual Award from the Houston Professional & Business Club on February 19, 2000.
Paul Janicke’s new book Modern Patent Litigation: Cases, Comments and Notes (Carolina Academic Press, 1999) is now available for purchase.
Students Mark Kennedy and Russell Chorush are second place winners of the American Red Cross’ Every Day Heroes award for their money raising effort to help fellow classmate Denver Bisignano, who suffered a disabling injury. The awards review panel was so moved by this story that they created the second place position so that Mark and Russell could be formally recognized.
Douglas Moll’s article, “Shareholder Oppression in Texas Close Corporations: Majority Rule Isn’t What It Used to Be,” will be published in the May 2000 issue of the Texas Bar Journal and the May 2000 issue of the Corporate Counsel Review. He has also accepted an invitation to serve on the board of directors of the Gulf Coast Legal Foundation.
Tim Mulligan’s website http://www.law.uh.edu/librarians/tmulligan/foreignlaw.html garnered some praise from the latest issue of The Internet Lawyer. The article said his site “is essentially an article rich with links to everything you need to know about doing Foreign and International legal research using primary materials. It is current, readable and astonishing in its scope and coverage.”
Tom Oldham and Laura Oren helped organize the second annual “Families in Crisis” program on February 4, 2000 in Krost Hall, which dealt with family violence.
Laura Rothstein’s article School Choice and Students with Disabilities, in School Choice and Social Controversy, edited by Stephen Sugarman and Frank Kemerer (Brookings Institute 1999) just hit the shelves. She also spoke on "The Appropriate Use of the LSAT" at South Texas College of Law on February 17, 2000 and St. Louis University Law School on February 8, 2000 on behalf of the Law School Admissions Council. She lectured at University of Texas Law School on February 4, 2000 in Austin on "The Americans with Disabilities Act - Titles II and III (Public Services and Public Administration: The ADA and the Sports and Entertainment Cases)." She spoke on February 4, 2000 to the Austin Community College Organization on "Current Issues for Disabled Persons on College and University Campuses."

Volume XLVII, Summer 1999, Number 3 on J.A. Vargas (Ed.): Mexican
Law: A Treatise for Legal Practitioners and International Investors. Recently,
he spoke about basic differences between the U.S. and Mexican legal systems
at a Border Conference sponsored by the Texas Attorney General’s office in
McAllen, TX on February 2, 2000. The conference dealt with family law issues
and was attended by U.S. and Mexican family lawyers and government officials.
