David Dow's essay "Religious Freedom isn't as innocuous as it Seems" appeared in the Dallas Morning News on April 4, 1999.

Sandra Guerra lectured before a group of Mexican Judges on the "American Justice System "at the U.S./Mexico Judicial Exchange Border Conference in Albuquerque on March 17^th. She also appeared on Channel 11 in "It's the Law" discussing police stops and searches of vehicles.

Steve Huber and Wendy Tracte-Huber's "Arbitration" has been listed by the Alternative Newsletter, a Resource Newsletter on Dispute Resolution as an outstanding text.

Ellen Marrus spoke with Matez Zakonjsek, a human rights worker and amnesty activist, at a meeting of the University of Houston chapter of Amnesty International on "Children Behind Bars:: The Juvenile Detention System in the United States." She also presented a lecture "Domestic Violence in Legal Education" at a two day conference sponsored by the State Bar Of Texas and the University of Texas and led a session on Law School Clinical Programs.

Douglas Moll was named Professor of the Year by the Order of the Barons. He also spoke on "Basic Business Law" at the People's Law School, April 10^th.

Dean Raymond Nimmer was quoted in the April 1999 ABA 75 on the new UCC Article 2.

Tom Oldham was invited to participate as a keynote speaker in a conference on "The Importance of Marriage and the Marriage-Based Family" on March 9-11^th at Brigham Young University. He was also quoted in the National Law Journal about a case involving the implantation of a fertilized embryo.

Michael A. Olivas appeared on Channel 11, the local CBS affiliate on Wednesday, March 31th, to discuss "Language Use in the Workplace." on which he was most supportive. He wrote a paper that will be published by the College Board in its new series, "Policy Briefs" in which two experts debate an emerging issue in higher education. He also wrote on legal issues in prepaid college tuition, and responded to a paper by the director of the PCTC. There will be a fall press conference on the series to be held in Washington, D.C, He was interviewed by the Chronicle of Higher Education on "Liability of College Trustees for Board Decisions," and he was named to Chair the 1999-2000 ABA/AALS visitation team for the Willamette University Law School. His book review of "Southern Rock ‘n’ Roll "(University of New Mexico Press) will be published in the Revista Bilingue/Bilingual Review. He gave the book a thumbs down.

Jordan Paust was the moderator of the Order of the Coif and the panel session on "Legal Responses to International Terrorism" on March 12^th at the Law Center. On March 16^th, he gave a lecture on "Incorporation of International Law" at Cornell Law School and on March 25t^h he was a member of a panel session on the "New International Criminal Court" at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of International Law in Washington, D.C.

Jordan Paust on NPR: Sandy Gaines listened to an interview by Jordan Paust on "All Things Considered" about the rules regarding the Serbian treatment of the U.S. prisoners of war on the Kosovo/Macedonia border on April1st. He praised Jordan Paust for doing a superb job, clear, informative, and authoritative. Stephen Zamara also heard the interview and congratulated Jordan Paust for being an excellent representative of the Law Center.

Ronald Turner was the recipient of the 1999 SBA Outstanding Professor of the Year Award. His article, "Employer Liability for Supervisory Hostile Environment Sexual Harassment: Comparing Title Vll’s and Section 1983’s Regulatory Regimes" will be published in a symposium in the Summer 1999 edition of the Urban Lawyer.

Jacqueline Weaver testified before the House Energy Committee of the Texas legislature on the proposed compulsory unitization bill for oil fields (not gas fields-politics prevented that.)
