Partner, McDowell Hetherington

Tom Hetherington is a trial partner in the firm’s Houston office. His practice focuses on a wide range of commercial litigation matters, including securities litigation; energy litigation; class actions; shareholder litigation; corporate merger litigation; financial services litigation; life, health and disability insurance litigation; stranger-owned life insurance (“STOLI”) litigation; ERISA litigation; business tort litigation; internal investigations; FINRA arbitrations; stop-loss insurance litigation; construction litigation; and real estate litigation. Tom has extensive experience litigating class/mass actions and complex commercial disputes.

Tom’s litigation practice is national in scope. He is known as a “go-to” lawyer for some of the nation’s largest energy and financial services companies and is regularly hired as lead trial counsel in complex matters throughout the United States.

Tom has extensive experience in state and federal courts and before arbitration panels across the country, including Texas, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Tom has trial experience in a wide variety of cases, including multimillion-dollar commercial litigation matters.

Tom is an eight-time Texas Super Lawyer Rising Star and has been named one of the top attorneys in Houston by H Texas Magazine. Tom was a partner at Bracewell & Giuliani LLP before leaving in January 2009 to form Edison, McDowell & Hetherington LLP.

Tom is actively involved in his community. He served as President of the University of Houston Law Alumni Association, is an enthusiastic supporter of Rice University where he was captain of the football team, and currently serves on the Rice Owl Club Board of Directors, among other activities.

Tom enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, is an avid wine enthusiast, and enjoys traveling and attending college and professional sporting events.

William N. Finnegan IV is a partner in the Austin and Houston offices of Latham & Watkins. He has an extensive practice covering a broad range of corporate and securities transactions, including the representation of issuers and underwriters in public and private offerings of debt and equity securities, negotiating and structuring public and private company acquisitions, forming and financing joint ventures and partnerships, and advising on general corporate and securities transactions.

Rosland Fisher McLeod joined SCL Health in August 2012, and serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer. She oversees system-wide legal services and risk management strategy. Previously, McLeod served as Vice President, General Counsel-Operations. Prior to joining SCL Health, she served as Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer at Biogen-Idec, a global biotechnology company, and as healthcare partner at the international law firm K&L Gates. In addition, she has served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for Novation Corporation, one of the country’s largest healthcare group purchasing organizations, and as Vice President of Legal Operations for Triad Hospitals. McLeod earned her undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University and her law degree from the University of Houston Law Center. She is a member of the Texas Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, the Catholic Health Association of the United States, the American Bar Association, the Council on Corporate Compliance and Ethics, the Health Care Compliance Association, Corporate Counsel Woman of Color, the Women Business Leaders of the U.S. Healthcare Association, the National Association of Health Services Executives, the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association and the National Bar Association.

Alex Roberts has built his career on the pillars of leadership and service.

A former judicial clerk and AmeriCorps Member, he has seen the law in action from many angles and knows first-hand the value of careful discernment and the strong dedication it takes to be an effective advocate. His experience before judges and juries in a variety of matters equips him to be a trusted advisor to his clients, who come to him in search of solutions to complex problems.

Alex represents both plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial litigation, professional liability and attorney disciplinary matters, fiduciary litigation, business disputes, employment, trade secret, products liability, and personal injury matters, to name a few. He has deep experience in the oil and gas and other energy-related industries, professional services industry, construction, and real estate sectors, among others.

Alex currently co-chairs the Firm’s Hiring Committee and maintains a strong commitment to pro bono legal work. Alex has been repeatedly recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer (2016-2020) and was named to Benchmark Litigation’s nationwide Under 40 Hot List (2016-2018).
