The event is being held by the University of Houston Law Center, SMU Dedman School of Law, and the Law School Admission Council.

March 11, 2021 - The 2021 University of Houston Law Center Spring Workshop Series, “Race, Social Change, and the Law,” featured Professor Trina Jones of Duke Law School last week. Jones presented her project, “Racialized Appearance Norms: Testing Law’s Limits,” and discussed with Dean Leonard M. Baynes, students, and faculty the implications of and possible legal remedies for discrimination based on skin color and hair.
March 5, 2021 - University of New Mexico School of Law Professor Emerita Sherri L. Burr shared the elaborate ancestral history of Africans in America before the Civil War era in her presentation "Genealogical Research into America's Antebellum Past: The Challenges of Finding the Enslaved, the Free, and Enslavers." Burr served the keynote speaker at the University of Houston Law Center's annual Black History Month lecture, which was held virtually on Feb. 25. Dean Leonard M. Baynes served as a commentator.
March 3, 2021 - The University of Houston Law Center's Institute for Intellectual Property & Information Law (IPIL) was the recipient of the inaugural 2021 Houston Intellectual Property Law Association's Excellence in Diversity Award. HIPLA created two inaugural awards, one for institutional efforts towards diversity and inclusion, and another to recognize an individual for their efforts in these areas.
