February may be a short month – but it’s long on activities coordinated through your UH Law Alumni Association.
We’ve launched a new outreach to existing law students called “A Day in the Life.” Three times this month, outstanding alumni are traveling to the Law Center to deliver simple lunchtime talks about what they do during an average day at their office. In addition to hearing candid perspectives about what being a lawyer is all about, students who fill the classroom gain something else: an appreciation that UH Law Alumni care about law students who are making career choices. Special thanks go to Susan Sanchez ’87 and the dozen alums who answered her call to action.
This week marked the debut of our Cougar Power happy hours that we are
co-sponsoring with the C.T. Bauer College of Business. If you missed the first one (and the chance to mingle with classmates and members of the judiciary), no problem: we meet every 2nd Wednesday of the month, with the next one set for March 10.
Can you join us for lunch in San Antonio on Tuesday, March 2? That’s when Dean Ray Nimmer, alumni and friends will join the Honorable Xavier Rodriguez of the Western District of Texas at the St. Anthony Hotel. (And watch the calendar for upcoming receptions in other cities, as we fulfill our pledge to extend our reach beyond Houston.)
Next month brings March Madness – and we are warming up for the basketball action with a tailgate event before the UH Cougars game against the Memphis Tigers on Wednesday, Feb. 24. This is one of those “limited seating” opportunities, so RSVP quickly if you want to attend.
Up and down the ranks, we’re seeing UH Law Alumni involved like never before. Your next chance to take a stand to help the Law Center should come when a Class Captain contacts you for a contribution to the Law Fund. Check this list of classmates who have signed on for this important task – and contact Leah Gross at the Law Center if you want to enlist as a Law Fund captain.
Last thing: Dean Nimmer’s Holiday Coffee was a big deal – but our 34th Annual Law Gala & Auction is an even bigger deal. Draw a silver and gold circle around that Saturday night, and make a promise to join us.
Wow, what a month! Is this momentum or what?
