Course Outline: While completion of the health law survey class will be helpful, it is not a specific requirement. The course material will include readings of scholarly legal and medical papers related to healthcare finance; discussion of the assigned material will be an important part of this class, and adequate preparation is essential. Among the topics that will be covered are legal and ethical aspects of healthcare financial transparency, financial conflicts of interest and regulation, profit incentives as they pertain to health care, and marketing of healthcare products and services. Discussion of current issues may be included as they arise. The course will be graded on the basis of a single submission-appropriate paper; mentorship for paper preparation will be provided. The final sessions will allow participants to discuss their papers and receive critique from their peers as well as from the professor. When appropriate, guest lecturers will provide experienced-based insight regarding the topics covered.
