Course Outline: Juvenile Law- Focuses on the juvenile delinquency system and studies the way cases are handled when a child is charged with a crime.

Course Notes:   This course can be taken concurrently with Children and the Law.

First Day Assignments: August 28th - In Juvenile Law we will be studying the constitutional law affecting
juvenile delinquency, national and state policy that has developed our juvenile court
system, and state statutes and cases that define the juvenile justice system. With this in
mind and reading chapter one in the case book, think about how you define Juvenile
Law. Read pages 3 - 33.

August 30th - The Supreme Court's decisions have shaped the states' juvenile courts.
However, the Supreme Court did not consider any juvenile court decisions until 1966 in
Kent v. United States. Was this a juvenile delinquency case? How might it influence
future decisions of the Court? Read pages 35 - 45.
