Course Outline: This introductory health law course focuses on bioethics and the mechanisms for assuring quality of health care. Topics may include death and dying, reproductive rights and emerging technologies, organ donation and transplantation, medical research, informed consent, formation and termination of medical treatment relationships, medical confidentiality, and an introduction to public health law. The course also surveys major mechanisms which seek to ensure the quality of health care, such as medical malpractice, accreditation, and professional licensure.

First Day Assignments: There will be some handouts by Friday afternoon for class on Tuesday. For the first week please read the first chapter in the Casebook, the Canterbury v. Spense case in the supplemental text, and pp. 612-621 in the casebook as well.
