Course Outline: This is the basic Copyright course, but in a 2-credit format. Topics include prerequisites for protection, subject matter, ownership, duration, infringement (including secondary liability), affirmative defenses (including fair use), and federal remedies

Course Notes:   Copyright will be offered this summer in a shorter form than usual. Owing to a college graduation in the instructor’s family, the class will meet as follows: Monday of the first week of Summer 2 (but not the rest of that week); Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (but not Monday) of the second week of Summer 2; and then Monday-Thursday for the remainder of Summer 2. Note also that, because the class in 1 hr. 30 mins. per session, all classes will begin at 5:45 pm.

Prerequisites:  

First Day Assignments: In Chapter 1 of the casebook for the course, please read pages 1-3 and 16-28, skim pages 28-52, and read pages 52-64, but skip the rest of the chapter. The first day of class is meant simply to provide an overview of topics and themes (e.g., the history of copyright law, the role of international norms, the digital challenge, and advocacy considerations) that will recur throughout the course. There will be no cases considered during the first class on June 2, but all classes thereafter, resuming on June 10, will be case-based.
