Summer I 2014
5400 Clinic Externship I - BONADERO- 18448
Erma Bonadero (DEPARTED)
Course Areas: Practice Skills - Clinics and Externships
Time: ARRANGED Location:
Course Outline: Well in advance of the semester during which they want to work, students should secure their own field placements at either a nonprofit organization or a government agency. A list of preapproved placements is located on the Externship Program’s webpage. If the placement where a student wishes to work for credit is not on the approved list, s/he must seek approval from the Externship Director before accepting a position at that placement. (Unless a student is a 3L who is participating in the Summer Apprenticeship Program, s/he cannot receive credit for working at law firm, even on a volunteer basis.)
Once a student secures an approved position, s/he must apply to the Externship Program at www.law.uh.edu/clinic. Students should not attempt to enroll themselves in these courses via PeopleSoft: if you’re approved, the Externship Director will enroll you via the Office of Student Services.
All participating in/externship students will receive an orientation; enrolled students will be emailed details once available. Students may not receive credit for working for a placement for which they have worked previously.
Students will be required to work at their placements for 60 hours to earn each hour of academic credit. Students must pay tuition for these credits, just as for any other law school course. Students needing financial aid should note that aid is only available if enrolling in a minimum of six credits over the summer.
